Check List




  1. Complete the State required Notary training and receive your Proof of Completion from the instructor.

  2. Completed and signed application.

  3. Complete a live scan fingerprinting for your background check.

  4. Sign up and pass the State Exam- Results are mailed out within 15 business days from CPS HR Consulting.

  5. The following are required to submit your application and take the exam:

  • Current Photo ID ( Driver's License, ID Card).

  • Original Proof of Completion from our class.

  • 2" x 2" color passport style photo.

  • A $40 application fee payable by check or Money Order ONLY to the Secretary of State or a $20 application fee if you're retaking the exam.







6.  Receive your Commission Packet by the State within 6 to 12 weeks.

7.  For renewing Notaries, your new Notary Public commission packet will not be sent to you more than 30 days before your current Notary          commission expiration date.

8.  Order your Bond and E&O Insurance through Cal State Notary Public.

You have 30 days form your Commission Certificate date to file your bond and take your Oath of Office at your county clerk's office.  

9.  Order your Notary Seal Stamp and Supplies with Cal State Notary Public.

In order to receive your official state seal, mail or hand deliver the Original Certificate of Authorization that you received in your state commission packet to Cal State Notary Public.  You may also order the rest of your Notary supplies either in person,

by phone or our website.




Congratulations!! You are now a Notary Public and a California State Public Official appointed to your office by the 

Secretary of State for a 4 year term of office.
